Autumn, for me, always conjures up images of walking in isolated moors with the wind rushing through my hair, fog gently descending and wrapping itself around me and I am dressed in heavy layers of tweed in rich, dark colours. I am drawn to the colder weather, the requirement for one to swathe oneself in carefully placed layer upon layer of luscious fabrics. It's the sartorial equivalent of a deep and long caress.
The reality of autumn here in UK is of course rain. Lots and lots of rain. But since fashion exists on a plane exclusive of reality, my autumnal fantasy prevails.
Autumn also allows one's brain to wander to thoughts less of the 'Wuthering Heights' ilk and more to the countryside in general.
I am at heart a city girl and even if my autumn fashion fantasy is quite alien to me in reality (you try navigating the forest in 6" heels), it doesn't mean I can't pound the urban landscape in my version of countryside attire.
Miuccia Prada is also feeling a bit countryside. She's given the pursuit of fresh water fishing a bit of a fashion makeover with her leather waders. Of course, you won't want to actually wade into any kind of water, fresh or not, in those bad boys let alone try to catch fish. If waders are stylistically slightly out of your range then you could do worse than procure yourself a pair of flat thigh high boots as a fitting substitute.
I myself am not a fan of hunting per se but, without the doubt, the finery involved in this aristocratic pursuit is ideal for providing plentiful style inspiration. Whether it's fitted riding style jackets or skin tight leggings there are lots of ways to look regal without resorting to chasing anything small and furry across a field.
However I shall be taking style tips from the horses rather than the riders. Harnesses, of the like used to tame those fabulous beasts, have found their way into my closet. Fleet Ilya creates the most delectable leather harnesses which would look majestic worn over some lush velvet, or tweed, for a truly tactile experience. Perhaps be a bit more literal and get yourself a Paul Seville horsetail belt available exclusively at Coco de Mer. Giddy up horsey!
